Anonymous visit counts
We count how many times each page and report is viewed, and for reports how far readers get: scroll depth, time spent, chapters reached, and PDF downloads, shares and contact clicks. We also count, as totals only: which kind of site sent the visit and the campaign tag on a shared link, the hour and day of the visit, the browser and operating system family, which report chapters readers reached, how the report's features were used, links to other sites (by domain), contact form and newsletter sign-up clicks, site searches (never the words), missing pages, and how fast pages load. We keep only daily totals per page, language, device type, country and referring website. For this counting we store no IP address, browser version or identifier, and the only thing we save in your browser is your opt-out, if you choose it. We keep these totals for up to 25 months. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. Google acts as our data processor for this, and your data may be transferred to and stored in the United States. It is kept for as long as set in our Google Analytics property's retention settings. When our cookie banner is shown, Google Analytics runs only after you accept it, and you can change your choice at any time from "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.

We also use other advanced analysis tools to understand how our content and campaigns perform. These tools may save an identifier in your browser.
Reader insights
This is currently switched off. If we ever switch it on, we will record your visit to our reports, including your IP address and the organisation it belongs to, only with your consent, for 90 days, to understand who reads our work. We use IPinfo to look up the organisation.

When you send us a message, we use your details only to reply to you.
Your rights and contact
You can ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Write to us through the contact page.
Country lookup
We work out your country offline, on our own server, from the DB-IP Lite database, db-ip.com, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
